Certification Requirements

  • Attend all 8 classes in eight monthly sessions
  • Complete all class assignments
  • Complete the self development plan
  • Complete over 30 hours of coaching
  • Complete a final exam

Upon completion of these requirements, you will receive your certificate via email


Online Sessions

Online Sessions are 3 hours long and meet once a month on the same day (e.g.,2nd Tuesday of the month). Once you register, you will receive confirmation of all meeting dates and times. Each session is facilitated live by an experienced OD Consultant.

Session 1:  Introduction to Executive Coaching (3 hours)

In this session, participants learn about the current trends in the field of Executive Coaching, how it benefits the organization and leaders, and the key to successfully launching an executive coaching program.  Participants will identify the ICF coaching competencies and begin using a coaching model to launch their coaching practice

  • Identify the keys to successfully launching an executive coaching program

Session 2:  Overview:  Creating a Coaching Strategy (3 hours)

In this session, Participants learn how to help he client creating a coaching strategy, identify the business need and create an implementation plan

  • Engage with client to build a relationship
  • Build a business case for coaching
  • Identify metrics to measure outcomes
  • Recognize the value of creating a communication strategy
  • Launch an implementation plan


Session 3:  Overview: Creating a Coaching Mindset (3 Hours)

In this session, participants recognize how to develop a coaching mindset by developing mindfulness techniques.  Participants will identify the role of the coach and recognize a model for coaching to develop a coaching partnership.

  • Practice demonstrating a variety of coaching scenarios


 Session 4:  Coaching Competencies (3hours)

In this session, participants identify the ICF competency model and the 11 core competencies to gain proficiency in demonstrating the model. Practice using powerful coaching questions; gain experience through demonstration.  Coaches recognize the importance of learning effective coaching techniques to provide a good coaching experience for their clients

  • Practice Powerful Questioning Techniques
  • Identify the 3 components of the Coaching Engagement
  • Gain experience through coaching practice


Session 5:  Coaching Practice: Initial Client Meeting and Identifying Assessment Instruments (3 hours)

In this session participants recognize the first step in building the coaching relationship and gain agreement to work together in a coaching engagement. Learn how to conduct the initial meeting to gain agreement, commitment and mutual respect. Determine the process for collecting data to identify the client’ development needs and identify several types of assessment instruments that can be used including a 360-feedback assessment.

  • Recognize the importance of building the coaching relationship
  • Conduct the initial meeting with the coachee
  • Establish an understanding of how to work together over the coaching engagement
  • Determine how to select and implement the appropriate assessment tools
  • Define how to select and implement a 360° feedback instrument and prepare participants to provide effective feedback.
  • Coaching Practice – Practice conducting the initial coaching session
  • Receive coaching on the ICF coaching competencies


Session 6:  Coaching Practice: Setting Goals, Creating a Development Plan (3 hours)

This session provides guidelines to conduct a coaching discussion and debrief assessments to help the client create a development plan.  Participants learn a variety of tools to help them lead the discussion and analyze a feedback report.  Identify derailers and help clients to change behaviors.

  • Recognize your role in debriefing a 360° feedback assessment
    • How to analyze and give feedback
    • How to define goals and create a development plan
    • How to plan and conduct the development discussion
    • How to identify coaching derailers
  • Conduct a coaching session to build your ICF coaching competencies


Session 7:  On-going Coaching and Follow up Discussions (3hours)

In this session, participants learn how to plan and conduct follow-up discussions with the coachee, follow-up on action plans, address issues and new challenges, and provide coaching for improvement.

  •  Identify steps for different types of coaching discussions
  • Demonstrate a follow-up coaching discussion
  • Recognize how to provide feedback
  • Identify how to brainstorm new goals and actions
  • Determine how to give coaching for improvement
  • Practice debriefing a discussion
  • Practice coaching


Session 8:  Final Coaching Discussion, Preparing for Ongoing Development (3 hours)

In this session, participants learn how to measure the success of the coaching, prepare for the transition and separation process, and follow up with the initial client to evaluate the outcomes.  Prepare the coachee to continue their self-development outside of the coaching relationship.

  • Contract Review and Post Follow-Up
