Michael J. Gelb explores in his book “Think Like DaVinci.” Being a genius is not only about having something exceptional, but finding the exceptional within yourself. This book was featured as the October Book Club for GIODN. Let’s look at some of the highlights.

What’s the gist?

You can develop your essential elements of genius.

Everyone has talents they can build from in each of these areas and by being purposeful in cultivating skills and experiences in each, anyone can unlock their genius. The book outlines 7 elements of genius curiosita (curiosity), dimostrazione (demonstration), sensazione (feeling), sfumato (softening into transitions), arte/scienza (art/science), corporalitá (body), and connessione (connection). Here is a look at each one of these genius areas and some tips on how to further cultivate it.

Curiosità

Curiosita (curiosity) is having an insatiably curious approach to life and an unrelenting quest for continuous learning. One can enact Curiosita using techniques such as A Hundred Questions, Ten Power Questions, and writing on daily themes.

Dimostrazione

Dimostrazione (demonstration) is the commitment to test knowledge through experience, persistence, and willingness to learn from mistakes. How to Dimostrazione: find your greats by researching those in your desired area and be the devil’s advocate.

Sensazione

Sensazione means feeling. Continual refinement of the senses to enliven experience. Experience Sensazione through A Sense a Day: Plan out 5 experiences in the next few months where you practice honoring each of your senses.

Sfumato

Sfumato (softening into transitions) is the willingness to embrace ambiguity, paradox, and uncertainty. Sfumato by stop googling things, embracing your ambiguity, and cultivating confusion endurance.

Arte/Scienza

Arte/Scienza (art/science) is the development of balance between science/art, logic, and imagination. Mind Mapping can be used to exercise the genius of Arte/Scienza.

Corporalitá

Corporalitá (body) is the cultivation of grace, ambidexterity, fitness, and poise. Be more Corporalitá by learning the science of eating, getting on a sleep schedule, and cultivating ambidexterity.

Connessione

Connessione (connection) is the recognition and appreciation of interconnectedness of all things. Grow your Connessione through thinking about your book outline and engaging in the 3 Objects by picking 2 things and listing the connections between them.

Thank you to those of you have joined us for our October Book Club at GIODN. This book is very practical and many suggestions to grow your genius, just like DaVinci. It all lives within us and with a little bit of focused effort, you can unlock your genius too! I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to exercise their true potential.
